National Textbook Search Database
Pearson Education
CHALLENGE:
Pearson wanted to enable Teachers with an easy online method to build a list of supplemental class materials – namely, literature books. Integrate author pen names into the search capability. Enable users to save items to a bookshelf for later recall and/or forwarding to their Pearson representative for purchase. Develop advanced search and user interface expereinces that don’t require an advanced degree in library sciences to use. Build the application so that it can be utilized across many branded sites from one centrally managed location and database.
SOLUTION:
Design and develop a dynamic online textbook database and search interface tailored to the needs of teachers, librarians, Pearson staff, etc. The answer: interview them and get a handle on their specific needs and then create a dynamic solution to satisfy all of them with a robust database and UI that are state of the industry. Additionally, create tools that Pearson administrators can use to simply and easily add, modify and delete textbook entries in the application database.
RESULT:
Project was developed and delivered on time and on budget. Along with a functional pen name component that guarantees a good search experience for all users, even very picky ones. Other web developers implementing the application on various Pearson web properties were thrilled with the web service tools and documentation that allowed them to embed the search application seamlessly within just a handful of hours.
